Dr Stephen Watkins is a Part-Time Tutor in English at the ºÚÁÏÉç.

I completed my BA in English literature (First Class) at Southampton, and my MA in Renaissance literature, 1500-1700 (Distinction) at the University of York. I returned to Southampton in 2014 to take up an AHRC-funded PhD, through the (SWW DTP), on the seventeenth-century playwright Sir William Davenant. I am now a Lecturer in English at the University of Derby, but continue to teach at Southampton on a part-time basis.

Research interests

My research focuses primarily on English Renaissance and Restoration drama. My PhD thesis examined the later career of the seventeenth-century poet laureate and playwright, Sir William Davenant (1606-68). I am currently researching the collaborative processes and networks through which Restoration dramas came to be realised in performance.

Stephen currently convenes the second- and third-year option module ‘Visions of Beowulf: New Encounters with Anglo-Saxon Culture’ (ENGL2073; ENGL3079).

Previously, he has taught on ‘ Radical England: From Shakespeare to Milton ’ (ENGL3058) and

‘ Multimedia Old English: Song, Skin and Cyberspace ’ (·¡±·³Ò³¢1085).
