Dr Suzanne Reimer, Associate Professor of Human Geography, has won the 2018 Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Mentoring. Her citation praised her 鈥榠nspiring dedication鈥, frequently going beyond the call of duty to support fellow Geography colleagues and helping them succeed in teaching, research and other University responsibilities.

Described by colleagues as 鈥榓n unsung hero鈥, Suzanne is keen to support staff navigating their way through University systems and practices; and to assist where possible by reviewing聽 draft grant applications and papers.

鈥淚 was really touched by the nomination for this award, especially as it comes from my peers,鈥 says Suzanne. 鈥淯niversity life is busy.聽 Particularly for colleagues new to the University, it can be challenging for to find their way in a new environment; and I do what I can to find time to support them through formal and informal mentoring.

Suzanne is chair of the Geography and Environment Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team. The Athena Swan initiative champions the advancement of gender equality and diversity in higher education. Geography and Environment was awarded a Bronze Athena Swan Award in October 2017.
