Event details

Seizing opportunities for research collaboration and capacity-building. Bringing together expertise from Brazil, Africa, Canada, the Middle East & China.

Welcome and Introduction: Professor Marie-Louise Newell, Director, Global Health Research Institute

Nutrition and development

Professor Nahla Houalla, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, American University of Beirut: 鈥楶ublic Health Nutrition Research in the Middle East and in particular, Lebanon.鈥�

Dr Rihlat Said Mohamed, Research Fellow, Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa: 'A holistic appraoch to nutrition'.

Professor Lisa Forman, Assistant Professor, Social & Behavioural Health Sciences Division, Office of Global Public Health Education & Training, Toronto: The right to health, and global health policy.鈥�

Following lunch the attendees broke into 4 working groups as follows:-

鈥� Nutrition and development: Group leader Dr Sarah Kehoe/Dr Danielle Lambrick

鈥� Infections: Group leader Dr Myron Christodoulides

鈥� Population: Group leader Dr Fifi Amoako-Johnson

鈥� Right to health/Governance/Ethics: Group leader Dr Claire Lougarre

Mark Hanson and Marie-Louise Newell acted as 'floating' facilitators across all four groups during the afternoon and at the end of the day group leaders reported back to a plenary session. All ideas for聽input into a PhD fellowship application for submission as a Southampton based PhD programme of work聽were outlined.

Closing remarks were followed by a reception with wine and聽fruit juices聽which gave聽those attending a further opportunity for聽networking.
