黑料社 achieves remarkable rise in QS World University Rankings 2022

The 黑料社鈥檚 growing reputation around the world has led to the institution鈥檚 remarkable rise of 13 places in the QS World University Rankings 2022, published today.

Southampton is now ranked 77th聽amongst the 1,300 universities ranked overall by QS 鈥 a climb of 25 places since 2018聽and its highest ranking by QS since the University achieved 73rd聽overall in 2012.

Professor Mark E.聽Smith, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University聽of Southampton, praised colleagues for their excellent contributions in making this achievement possible. He also highlighted the increased citation聽rates聽for聽Southampton鈥檚 published聽world-class聽research and the improved recognition of the University by employers as key factors in this year鈥檚 ranking success.

鈥淭here are lots of excellent universities across the world and being recognised in the top 100 is聽something that we, at Southampton, celebrate as formal recognition of the dedication shown by our hard-working and聽high-quality聽staff and students and our impact-led and globally-relevant research, all of which is creating a positive impact across the globe,鈥澛燭he Vice-Chancellor reflected. 鈥淭o have improved our position by more than 10 places from already being within the top 100 is a really strong performance聽and a true indicator of our status as a world-leading university as seen by our peers and those in industry and other sectors with whom we collaborate and who continue to recruit our high-quality graduates in great numbers.

鈥淭wo聽key聽elements of our success聽to highlight are聽the聽citation profile聽which has strengthened greatly聽鈥 testament to the real international quality of聽research and other academic activities which our聽colleagues across the University are carrying out聽-聽and the real improvement in the international reputation amongst employers, enhancing the prospects for our students.聽A heartfelt聽thank you聽to all of my colleagues across the University聽for all of their聽hard work that has got us聽to聽this聽recognition.鈥

To rank the 1,300 institutions in this year鈥檚 , data was analysed and performance indicators reviewed with a鈥痜ocus on excellence in research and teaching, as well as the international profile of students and staff and each university鈥檚 global reputation amongst fellow academics and employers.

This year Southampton scored particularly well for its reputation amongst employers, moving up 31 places聽in this category,聽whilst also increasing its聽research citations per faculty, leading聽the University聽to rise聽41 places.聽In addition,聽Southampton improved 21 places for the proportion of students who are international, a strong reflection of the University鈥檚 continued popularity amongst students from around the world.

Professor Mark Spearing, Vice-President (Research and Enterprise) at the鈥疷niversity鈥痮f Southampton said:鈥淚 am delighted by our improved position in the QS World Rankings which provides a good indication of the relative performance of research-intensive Universities like Southampton across our intertwined missions of education, research and the translation of鈥痶hat world-class鈥痳esearch into practice via enterprise and knowledge exchange.鈥 As we continue to perform well in delivering high-quality education and鈥痟igh-quality鈥痳esearch, our graduates and our research outputs will continue to聽have a positive impact in the world which will improve our reputation, and our sustained recognition,鈥痠n these global rankings.鈥
