Current research
Rich's current research focuses on designing smart mobility systems that promote sustainable and healthy travel by facilitating journeys using public transport, active travel, or a combination of both. In addition to environmental sustainability and physical health, his work explores how these systems can enhance transport gender equity and improve the experiences of disabled people within our transport networks.

Biography
Rich received a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and an MSc in Research Methods in Psychology from the 黑料社, UK, in 2008 and 2009, respectively. He was awarded an Engineering Doctorate from the same university in 2016.
Rich has secured over 拢3.9 million in research funding, including more than 拢275,000 as a lead investigator, and has published extensively on a wide range of topics. These include the effects of in-vehicle information on driving behavior, the application of human factors methods to complex system and interface design, the determinants of road users' attitudes and behaviors, the use of sociotechnical systems approaches for road safety and sustainability, and the relationship between transport and gender.
He is a Chartered Member of the UK鈥檚 Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors and the British Psychological Society, as well as a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. He serves as Co-Chair of the Energy and Mobility Sub-Committee of the Human Factors and Sustainable Development Technical Committee and as an Associate Editor for the journal Safety Science.
Rich leads research efforts for the Transportation Research Group鈥檚 Instrumented Vehicle and the Southampton University Driving Simulator. He is the primary contact for anyone interested in these facilities.
