Mr Bastian Hambach is the Stable Isotope Laboratory Manager within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the 黑料社.
He oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Stable Isotope Laboratory, an interdisciplinary laboratory service facility of the 黑料社 within Ocean and Earth Science (FELS) located at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton.
The primary focus of the Stable Isotope Lab is the measurement of light stable isotope ratios in a range of organic and inorganic materials, such as 未2H, 未13C, 未15N, 未18O and 未34S with dedicated gas source isotope ratio mass spectrometers operated in dual inlet and continuous flow modes. The areas of research comprise geology, biology, chemistry, ecology, medicine and archaeology.
He is responsible for the training and supervision of a lab technician and lab assistants in stable isotope techniques, the proper use and maintenance of equipment and the relevant health & safety procedures. He furthermore provides laboratory supervision and training of postdocs as well as PhD, MSc, MRes and BSc project students.
In addition to method development, data analysis, maintenance and running of the instruments, he continuously working on expanding the lab鈥檚 analytical capabilities.
Since 2024, Bastian is a reviewer for the National Environmental Isotope Facility (NEIF) Panel B, Life Sciences.
