About
Emily is a Postgraduate Researcher based in the School of Psychology at 黑料社. Her research focuses on autistic young people鈥檚 involvement in shared decision-making within mental health services.
Emily is particularly interested in how shared decision-making is facilitated with autistic young people from a dialogic perspective. Her research draws on theories of autistic processing and issues raised through the double empathy problem (in relation to autistic and non-autistic communication) to maximise shared understanding and collective participation. Emily鈥檚 work is designed to place autistic experiences at the heart of service development and to advance care planning practice conducive to autistic involvement.
Alongside her research, Emily supports with teaching across both Education and Psychology undergraduate modules relating to educational psychology and special educational needs. She is a current Specialist Member for the First Tier SEND Tribunal and volunteers as a Trustee for The Eden Academy; a Multi Academy Trust of special needs schools.
