About
I am an Associate Professor in Marine Biology and Ecology within Ocean and Earth Science, 黑料社, based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton.
My work focuses on the ecology of marine predators.
I look at how the biophysical oceanographic environment influences the behaviour and distribution of marine predators and how we can model and forecast these aspects of their ecology in our changing seascapes. Increasingly I am exploring the applied and broader implications of this work 鈥 how do we use this information about marine predators for conservation, management and to understand broader ecosystem pattern, process and status? To do this I use data from technologies including animal biologging and remote-sensing, which I analyse with modern, highly quantitative tools like machine learning. Geographically, I focus on the Southern Ocean (Antarctic and Subantarctic).

Research groups
Any research groups you belong to will automatically appear on your profile. Speak to your line manager if these are incorrect. Please do not raise a ticket in Ask HR.
Research interests
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.
In , select 鈥楨dit profile鈥. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.
Current research
Update this in . Select 鈥楨dit profile鈥 and then 鈥楥urriculum and research description - Current research鈥.
Describe your current research in 100 to 200 words. Write in the third person. Include broad key terms to help people discover your work, for example, 鈥渟ustainability鈥 or 鈥渇ashion textiles鈥.
Research projects
Research Council funded projects will automatically appear here. The active project name is taken from the finance system.
